The conference sessions witnessed an official opening by MSIF staff, welcoming attendees and presenting an overview of the federation's programs and activities worldwide and in the Arab region, emphasizing collaboration with multiple sclerosis organizations across the region to develop a treatment access charter in the Middle East and North Africa.
Subsequently, Dr. Raed Al-Rughani, consultant neurologist and vice-chair of the Executive Committee of the International Federation of Multiple Sclerosis (MENACTRIMS), delivered an explanation of the conference's agenda and the scientific committee's work within the research framework. Research focused on three main areas: factors aiding disease onset, diagnostic research, and treatment modalities.
Regarding factors aiding disease onset, previous research on the EBV virus and its relationship to disease progression was discussed, with a focus on current research targeting the treatment of this virus.
Regarding diagnostic methods, emphasis was placed on developing international standards and streamlining procedures to facilitate early disease diagnosis.
As for treatment modalities, the focus was on therapies targeting disease course modification and slowing its progression, with an eye toward developing more effective treatments in the future.
